Student, Graduates Join UN Conference
November 21, 2007 - News Release, University of Guelph
http://www.uoguelph.ca/news/2007/11/student_and_gra.html
A University of Guelph student and five recent graduates have been chosen to represent Canadian youth at the United Nations climate change conference in Bali, Indonesia.
They are among 30 Canadian youth participating in the international climate conference Dec. 3 to 14 and will join more than 100 youth from across the globe to voice their concerns and advocate for stronger policies surrounding climate change.
With the Kyoto Protocol set to expire in 2012, discussions will focus on deciding how countries will continue to address the issue of climate change, said U of G student Aiden Abram, who is co-ordinator of the Canadian Youth Delegation to Bali.
"Our participation in Bali as future leaders will ensure that Canadian youth are engaged in the discussions critical to maintaining ongoing commitment to the United Nations climate change process," said Abram.
The other Guelph delegates are Derek Pieper, a commissioner with U of G's Central Student Association; Adam Scott, a research associate in the Global Environmental Change Group in U of G's Department of Geography; Jennie McDowell, who initiated several sustainable energy projects on campus and is now the City of Guelph's transportation demand management co-ordinator to facilitate sustainable transportation; David Noble, founder of 2degreesC, a Guelph-based sustainability consultant group; and Trevor Dixon Bennett, a researcher with 2degreesC.
