The latest WEED Foundation project expands on its successful 1998 lifestyle challenge that promoted the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions among 25 notable Toronto-area personalities by asking them to reduce their personal energy consumption by 20 percent over a five-month period. The current project will recruit an additional 50 participants and expand beyond the Toronto area. Each participant will be teamed with a school child who will monitor progress. The program will supplement the Grade 5 Toronto science curriculum. The existing participants’ manual, which contains strategies to reduce CO2 emissions, would be expanded to include information relevant to all Ontario citizens and include strategies for collective community action. This information would be available on the Web. The project will also highlight health issues which may arise due to climate change and outline preventive measures which individuals may take to protect their health
